Have you ever wished that you could support wildlife every day, by doing what you already do online? What if Last Chance Forever earned a percentage of most of the purchases you made online? What if it earned a penny every time you searched the Internet? Starting this month, it can.
GoodSearch is a search engine, backed by yahoo that donates to LCF every time you do a search. It donates half its advertising revenue, which means LCF can earn about a penny per search.
GoodShop is a "mall" with hundreds of member online stores. It donates up to 37 percent of each purchase made through its portal to select nonprofits. Member stores include businesses you probably routinely use for travel (Expedia, Hotels.com, Priceline, Travelocity, many of the most popular rental car and hotel chains), reading material (Amazon, Barnes & Noble, AbeBooks, TextbookX), office supplies (Office Depot, Office Max, Staples), phone services (AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon), electronics (Apple, iTunes Store, MacMall, Dell, CompUSA), and much more.
All it takes to get donations flowing to LCF is to go to GoodShop at www.goodshop.com, enter Last Chance Forever when asked "Who do you GoodShop for?" then click on any of the retailer links. Users are forwarded on to the store's own website, where they shop as usual. When the purchase is complete, the member store lets GoodShop know how much was spent and how much to donate to LCF.
For the first time, Last Chance Forever/The Bird of Prey Conservancy will be participating in Luckenbach's annual 4th of July Celebration. This fun-filled outdoor event will be held from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm on Friday. We will be performing our nationally known bird of prey demonstration at 11:00am and 3:15pm, and there will also be opportunities throughout the day to view these magnificent sky hunters up close. In May, a golden eagle was found injured near Lake Palestine by Texas Parks and Wildlife game warden Chris Greene. It was brought to local veterinarian Steve Wilson and rehabilitator Beverly Grage for initial emergency care. They stabilized the bird, but it was still not standing well or eating on its own. Last Chance Forever was called to take over the bird's care.
At LCF, Dr. Melissa Hill and John Karger determined that the bird had suffered eletrical burns. Among its injuries were burns on its feet and an exit mark in the wing. We are happy to announce that this eagle was released several weeks later near where it was found, in a celebration of all its rescuers.
